Battery

Hi Ian. I've just slapped one of these on my car to shed another 5+kgs:

I've not properly tested it out though. It starts the car fine, charges fine and doesn't seem to lose charge, but I've only had it a few weeks. They are supposed to lose next to nothing if left with no parasitic drain, so I'm going to see how I get on without an expensive dedicated charger. But at £85, you could probably put a new one on each year anyway!

What's the CCA of the original Banner as well as Powervamp, Odyssey et al.? From memory, that Skyrich is 250-280 CCA. No idea how that compares, but it'll be interesting to see if it'll still start after the winter.

Built-in battery management system?! It's got a test button and three LEDs to tell you the state of the battery, if that's what you mean!

Just a thought, Ian. Does it have to be a racy/trick/expensive/overpriced lightweight battery? If not, I've been using a Yuasa (Ultramax/RMD25-alike) for the past few years with no issues, even when I completely flattened it as my alternator packed up one day. It's about 5.7kgs, you can fit it in any orientation and about £40 from memory. I have my old one kicking around somewhere, so I can launch it in the post if you want to try it out.

Ian,

Ed roller /PowerVamp recomended a Jet Ski battery for my 7.  It was a Hawker Odessey PC865 or 685 IIRC he said it was just as rugidly built but does not have the racey red colour scheme and half the price of the race battery , lasted 6 years then I sold the car with it still going strong.
