OliW
Hi folks,My brake light fuse has blown twice in a few days, but it doesn't do so immediately. I have a third high brake light which has always worked fine, in addition to the usual two. All lights currently work with the now 3rd fuse, but the 7.5a went, as did the replacement 10a fuse that the MOT man put in its place.I have no idea how to test for faults, but I do have a multimeter if that might help and I have checked the connections by eye and feel, and they seem fine. The internals of the lights do not appear corroded. Can anyone give me any ideas please? Thanks,Oli
SM25T
Probably legs of split pin on top of clutch pedal. If splayed, they can short brake switch connections. Turn brake switch and bend pin legs. Fuse shared with reverse light. So check connectors on reverse light switch on side of gearbox are not shorting on transmission tunnel wall. OliW
Thanks SM25T, that's really useful. The engine has recently been out and in again and a new clutch reservoir has gone in with a new pin on the pedal end. I checked that and whilst I couldn't get it to short, it was very close to the brake switch. I have therefore made sure there is clearance between the two. I have also knocked out the grommet covering the reverse light cables a few times in the last few days and that may be something to do with it. Perhaps when the box went back in it was moved closer to the tunnel wall, hence easier to knock the grommet out. I have turned one of the connectors to make it further away from touching anything else.I'll monitor it over the next week and see if it happens again, but thanks in the mean time.Oli
