Gear lever thread?

Hi gents and thankyou for your ongoing help!

Rookie mistake I think. I didn't realise F in UNF was fine and coarse was available too! I have no extension piece and the unthreaded shaft measures 10mm or just under (I have no calipers so not 100% accurate I am afraid). I have now ordered an M10x1.5 and a 3/8UNC bolt. Unfortunately I have no source locally. I took the knob to the shop, not the lever. The reference bolt in the photo is 3/8UNF.

Thanks! All this to upgrade me knob *eek*

Of the two options I suspect it is 3/8UNC. My Dad was round today and he found a nut in his box of bits and pieces that fitted the gearlever and I doubt, given the likely age of the content, it would be metric! Only a few days before the saga will be over!

Depending on the age of your dad's nuts ........ It could be a 3/8" Whitworth nut which is the same diameter and thread pitch (3/8" x 16tpi) - just a 5 degree difference in thread angle and so would fit.
