Smithy77
Hi all,I have a quick question regarding my Z&F re-map which I've recently had done, but the question is informed by a rather long story. So, long story short, with the help of some very generous club members, I have been chasing some starting and running issues all summer. I began a rather mamoth thread on the issues here: http://www.lotus7.club/forum/techtalk/k-series-running-issues-possible-misfire which I've been meaning to update and close, as I'm glad to say I now have a lovely running motor. My starting issues were cause by my Brise starter which you can read hear: http://www.lotus7.club/forum/techtalk/brise-starter-current-draw-transients (Big thanks to revilla on that one!)Anyway about my mapping... Car is a 1.6K-series Supersport ex-mega grad. In order to address the poor cold running/idling and general difficult driving characteristics the car had, I took the car first to Dave Andrews to fit some verniers and to properly set the cam timing, and soon followed by a trip to Mark at Z&F for a mapping session to optimise the set-up. The difference this work made was phenominal, and the engine was (and still is) really runnning sweet. However, when I took it to Z&F I still had starting issues - when ever I started the engine, something (which later turned out to be the starter) was causing the ECU to reset which meant I had to manually control the idle with throttle for a few seconds. I made the mistake of asking Mark to try and improve the starting/idling issues with the mapping, so what he did was raise the idle speed to 1150rpm and also adjusted the 'idle adaption' settings. The latter of these setting has had the result that I subsequently suffered from the revs momentarilly plemeting to almost stall everytime I came off throttle and disengaged the clutch, before quickly returning to idle. Mark suggested that the idle adjustment settings might readapt to fix this, but it seems like the settings were too extreme. I have therefore had to wind in the butterfly stop screw on the throttle body by about 1 turn to keep it open that little bit, which has done the job of preventing that problem. So my question is, should I / is it OK to live with a higher than normal idle speed and adjusted throttle body? Or would it be best to send the ECU back to Mark for standard idle speed/adaption settings? If the latter, can he make these tweaks without messing up the rest of the fueling mapping? Thanks
AdeC
Talk to Mark, he will be able to re-set the idle. I have a Z&F Mapped car and he did some adjustments FOC.
Smithy77
Mark has/will suggest it's fine to live with, I'm sure, but he doesn't have to live with it! I just wondered what fellow owners might do in the same position...
CharlesElliott
I would get it changed, because I would hate to know that it could be better.
