replacing front wishbones - any top tips

Hi all,

Need to replace my spherical bearings on front wishbones, lasted all of 15k miles - S3 imperial 2004. I have spare set of wishbones all ready to go in.

Any top tips to doing this without taking all the front suspension off?

Looks possible by supporting car, supporting upright, removing damper bolt to wishbone, removing nyloc under bearing/wishbone, removing wishbone from chassis, reverse to refit?

Cheers

Paul

The only point to suggest is that the bottom wishbone allen head bolt can seize in the wishbone to the extent you might have to replace the wishbone completely.

When I did a similar job last time I ended up having to destroy the old wishbones simply to replace the bearings.

When you remove the lower damper-to-wishbone caphead bolt (7/32" hex, I believe, for an imperial chassis), be sure to use something like this rather than a hex key or two-part socket.  It's very easy to round off the hex and you only get one go!

Do you have a copy of the Assembly Guide?
