Krismuss
EnthusiastIc cornering (with a near tank-full) followed by petrol smell in the cockpit. TADTS or something to look into further? Chris
Stationary M25 Traveller
Have you got the in-line one way valve in the breather hose from the tank that vents under car below filler ? Tech bulletin showing how hose should be run up to top corner of tank with valve in it, then looped down to vent under chassis. Do a search in Tech Talk. Without this mod, you will drop some fuel ! john milner
When I started smelling petrol it was caused by the gasket on top of the tank breaking up.
Stationary M25 Traveller
Mine was horribly cracked ...... 2002 car. Easy to replace. Don't overtighten the screws.
Support Team Shaun_E Posted July 15, 2011 Support Team Share Posted July 15, 2011 It is most likely to be fuel coming through the breather as described above but I had a more serious issue recently. I found that the outlet on the top of the tank next to the filler had cracked around the weld and fuel was spilling out of that. I sorted it with some Leak Fix. speakmp
Had just this issue in last two weeks. Looks like it was the fuel sender gasket that had perished/split and the seal around the fixing scews was therefore broken. PeteSV
prangerman
The position of the breather hose may also be a cause. When mine was moved up a bit the petrol smell reduced noticeably, although it's still there a bit. Peter
Pierson
Clearly not a Crossflow-engined car then - when the smell of petrol always pervades the cockpit when cornering. And when braking. And accelerating.... up an incline, down a slope, on a flat road. Standing still - ignition on or off. In the garage, under its dust cover and not having been started for weeks over the winter. And sometimes not just a mere odour, but actual petrol streaked down the side of the bodywork discharged from twin Webers. Personally, I wouldn't have it any other way...
