Tintop issue: EGR cleaning

Hi all

I have an issue with my Audi A6, it is down on power by a huge amount.

I've changed the air mass sensor which seems to have help a little.

The next job I'm planning is cleaning the EGR.

I was thinking of giving it a soak in BBQ cleaner chemicals and then using a toothbrush to finish.

Is using BBQ cleaner  a good idea?

I have played with these cars quite a lot, just sold mine!

If it is massively underpowered I'm surprised there is no code; are you scanning it with VCDS or a generic scanner?

You can move the turbo vane actuator by hand, it should be smooth. If someone starts the car whilst you watch it, it should move from one stop to another relatively quickly. Not sure about barbecue cleaner, I'd use carb cleaner (or even EGR cleaner).

Jack - what engine code is it. AKE?

If it is, you should need to remove anything to move the VNT. If the rod wasn't moving/working, you should get a 00575.

You can test the actuator using VCDS. Or when you start the car, the rod will move - but you'll need someone else to start it as it will have moved by the time you get round. When you kill the engine, it should flip back.

The VNT is controlled by the vacuum from the N75. Have you checked for vacuum leaks?

Hello

I think I had 00575

the engine is an AKE

I asked my wife to play with the loud pedal ( those engine our loud), and I could here a slight hissing noise from somewhere, by the N75 there is a plastic T piece that was broken.

I replace that tomorrow.

I could move the rod by hand when the VNT was attached to the turbo, I undid the 2 bolt holding it and the rod moves freely. however when fitted back I cannot move it.

how easily should it move?

To check the N75, should i use this youtube vieo https://www.youtube.com/watch?annotation_id=annotation_1342673755&feature=iv&src_vid=J6b1R0k9BFE&v=mo6qC9PIuJU as a guide?
