The Oxford area meeting started in September 1983 after the great success of the first international meeting at Beaulieu organised by Dave Mirylees, the only Lotus 7 meetings prior to this were the Bristol Lotus Seven owners, the White Hart at Godstone and the Feathers meeting in Herts. The first group was Brian Soper, his wife Claire, Nigel Riches now in New Zealand and John & Annie Comino James.
We started at the Chequers at Burcot but had to move when the Chequers shut and reopened an upmarket eating house. We have always met on the First Tuesday of the month and being slap bang in the middle of Southern England have always had lots of 7s arriving from other counties. As other area meetings around us have started we now get 7 owners who attend 2 or 3 different meetings a month and the Oxford area 7’s are enjoying visiting other areas and the chance of a good blat.!!!
As an area we don’t organise any specific events but enjoy a good chat every month, Winters inside and Summers in Garden and meeting at the other events. The group has a ‘hard core’ of 7 drivers who enjoy using the cars for sprints track days, every day motoring and most of us enjoy maintaining the cars ourselves either from choice or lack of money.
