Looking to change my 160 wheels for some alloys. Not wanting to go much if any bigger just not a fan of the steels.
It would seem that the size is unusual as is the 4x100 PCD.
Any suggestions for a source of wheels or ideas greatfully received.

    Hello all,

Looking to buy my first Caterham from their used stock.

More to the point is there any point negotiating on price as with other car dealerships, not dealt with them before.

No harm trying obviously but any experiences/ good advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Steve.

Currently running 14" wheels and have narrowed down tyre options to either R888r's or NS2R's at 185/60/14.

Whats the general consensus of opinion?

    Thanks

I have a Sherwood Green car which in low light is almost black. The car doesn't have a rear Caterham badge and it seems that the 'standard' Caterham lettering only comes in chrome/silver. I'd much prefer a black version but can't find anything via the usual searches. Any one on here either found a black version or indeed, anyone ever painted the chrome one (and with what)??

    Cheers

    Hoping someone can help?
My Caterham failed its MOT this year - emissions too high. Many tweakings later and replacement of leads, plugs etc. etc. it's still failed. Turns out the catalytic converter had been removed & the lambda sensor switched off! How did I not know this?
Anyhow, I desperately need to refit the Cat; it's a R400 super 7 K series, with 4 into 1 exhaust.
Looking for a second-hand Cat, if anyone's got one hanging up in their garage please?
MOT fully expires end of this month and am missing this nice weather.
Wait to hear if you can help please? Thanks. Roy

On my return home from France on Eurostar I applied the rarely used hand brake to have it extend all the way out with no effect on the car. As I’ve got 14 days quarantine endure perhaps someone can tell me what might be wrong and how to go about fixing it? Thanks

If you’re ever looking to put together your own Caterham from a kit, there’s no better place to start than the array of blogs available from numerous other Seven enthusiasts. Many of the following certainly provided a great source of inspiration before, during and after my own build.

I don’t claim this list to be comprehensive and would apologise in advance to anyone out there I may have missed – let me know and I’ll add you on. Equally, if you're included but would rather not be, please let me know.

  5. I have just bought my first caterham a week or so ago, a 420R, and I have found that it keeps cutting out when cold. With being new to caterhams I don't know what could be the cause so any advice would be great. The car basically struggles to idle when started. This lasts for about 10 minutes until it's warmed up. I have to heal and toe to keep the Revs on while it's warming up. I'm going to call the dealership I bought it from tomorrow but thought I would ask on here as well.

Recently bought a pool ball of the internet. A new 7 spot. Drilled it, tapped it, now have a nice new gear knob! Not too hot or cold, just the right shape and very comfortable. I love the way little things change our Seven's and make them individual to us all.DSC_0030.thumb.JPG.25060183b97f9828d242580de638fb39.JPG

    Hi!

24 years after first sitting in a Caterham as a 16 year old on a day trip to the Birmingham motorshow in 1996 from Dublin, my 40th birthday present last week was a wonderful S3 LHD built as a kit  in 1993 in Holland with the 2.0l Opel/Vauxhall 16v Engine.

New to the scene, looking for similar minded people close to Hannover in northern Germany by using the various clubs - anyone out there?!

    Regards,

    Darren

Anyone got any experience in selling their seven through Gravely and Paine (GP Sevens) on a commission basis?  The set-up seems very good but I wondered if members had any thoughts based on experience.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello everyone,

After over 30 years of patiently waiting, I finally bought myself a Caterham!

My first drive of one was in about 1988 near Newcastle.  I was a student at that time and met a bunch of chaps in a pub who were wearing Caterham sweatshirts.  I got talking as I already had an interest and they invited me to a 'track day' the following Tuesday evening.  It was at a disused aerodrome as I recall.  Anyway I turned up and someone there generously and kindly offered me a drive in his car.  He went with me at my insistence and I still remember his words: 'rev it man, rev it!'.

So here I am all these years later.  After hiring a couple of different ones from Caterham near Gatwick, and driving a few for sale elsewhere, I settled on K series power as my preference.  I finally bought mine from GP Sevens and got it at the end of November last year.  Although not the best timing (I have an aversion to road salt!) I have used it a handful of times over the winter and love it!  GP Sevens were good to deal with.  Of the various places I visited they seemed to me to have amongst the best quality of stock and as soon as I saw it advertised, knew it was the one for me!

It's an SLR and has had some mods over it's life.  I may do some autosolos in it, and maybe some sprints (I used to hillclimb a frogeye Sprite).  Otherwise I don't really have an aim as to how I will use it, but those times I have done so far, it's just been for the fun of driving, which suits me just fine!

I'm based in Guildford, Surrey these days and hope to meet some of you through the club.  I have to say, I tend to read motoring forums and rarely post on them, so go easy on me!  (I tried to post a photo but it was massive).

    Dave

About a week ago I bought a 1987 Caterham 1700 Super Sprint from a friend of mine. I first saw at a summer party at his home a couple of years ago and thought that would be a fantastic car to own. We had just bought two Porsche Boxsters, so the time wasn't right, but I kept lusting for it. A year ago my friend brought it to our local autocross venue, a closed military airport, and saw it in action. More lust. I did notice that it emitted a cloud of smoke whenever he lifted the throttle, so I knew something was worn.

The car has pretty much sat for the last decade and needs work. My first priority is the engine. Make sure that it gets a good tuneup, and then evaluate whether any kind of rebuild is needed.

Finally all the pieces fell into place. I was able to get spousal approval and my friend realized that the car needed to go to someone who would use it. Pricing was a little tricky. We finally left it as he would decide how much he was willing to sell it to be for and I would pay him that amount if I could afford it. No dickering. He worked out a price and I accepted it, so the deal was done.

A week ago I drove it home. The temperature was right around 40 degrees F and it was a bit hard to start and needed both starting fluid and choke, a two person job since the car didn't have a choke cable. First time I drove it in traffic. Pretty rough in the 1000 to 3000 RPM range. Lots of farting out the exhaust and popping out the carburetors. As soon as it hits 3000 RPM it smooths out and pulls like a champ.

My plan is to give it a thorough tune-up ASAP and then decide whether there is a need to rebuild any component. This weekend proved ideal to get the project going. Yesterday was in the 40s, today and tomorrow in the mid 60s. Terrific for Massachusetts in January.

Yesterday I started out having the car inspected. I registered it earlier in the week and got the license plates Friday. The state inspection is similar to the UK MOT. It was a hoot. Everybody was really interested in what it was and took a lot of pictures. The inspector insisted on driving it in and needed instruction on how to get in. Once in, I had to show him how to test all of the controls. Everything worked as it should and the car passed and got its sticker.

After I got home I started by installing a choke cable. Once I get it tuned right I suspect it won't be needed, but right now it is. My plan was to tune the Webers, but as soon as I started I noticed that any push on the carbs make the idle speed change and the manifold mounting nuts seemed really loose. Tightened them a bit and then decided it was prudent to get some expert advice. Glad I did.  Didn't realize that the manifold mounting is flexible to reduce frothing in the carbs. End result was that I ordered the parts to replace all of the mounting hardware.

Today started with a carburetor tune after replacing the spark plugs. The carbs turned out to be balanced perfectly. The idle mixture was not right with the air filters off. I did set them as described and it ran fairly well, but after putting the air filers on it was clearly off. That prompted me to get a K&N filter cleaning kit. Used it, and now have the filters drying inside the house, so no more carb work. Next was a compression test. I did it dry and found that the cylinders all are very close to 150 PSI. Cylinder 4 is a tiny bit lower. I need to find out whether this is good. I was relieved, however, to find them so close.

Tomorrow I'll put some oil in the cylinders and do a wet compression test. That should tell me if there is any piston blow-by. I will also do a road test and see how it feels.

At this stage I suspect that both carbs would benefit from service at a specialist and also that the head also should be given a rebuild. The valves seem to seat well by the compression test, but the smoke at lifting indicate that the valve guides and/or the valve seals may be worn.
