The funniest sight I have seen was a six wheel pickup truck with a couple of muddy mountain bikes stored on a tow bar mounted bike carrier. I guess the owner did not want to get the load space dirty
I parked my Mini (68) next to a Fiat 500 the other day and the Fiat was enormous in comparison. Everyone should be driving old minis. There'd be more room on the roads and everyone would drive more carefully due to the high risk of death*driving* also no tax no MOT and FC insurance of £90 a year. Slightly difficult to drive more than 50 miles in comfort tho
Spen King conceived and designed the brilliant and original Range Rover. And later said:
"The 4x4 was never intended as a status symbol, but later incarnations of my design seem to be intended for that purpose. I find the people who use it as such deeply unattractive. Sadly, the 4x4 has become an alternative to a Mercedes or BMW for the pompous, self-important driver. To use the 4x4 for the school run, or even in cities or towns at all, is completely stupid."
I thought this post was going to be from Nigel Benn......................................
I am on my 4th SUV and a big fan of them. Dog in the boot, family of 5 in the car, suitcases on a roof bars/box, 4WD for the Peak District winters, better visibility, safe, as comfy as a saloon, decent residuals and 35MPG from a super smooth 3L V6. What's not to like!
"Sports Utility Vehicle"?
Can anyone explain what that even means? Is it an F1 car that can also be used for work by my mate the builder?
American slang as far as I know. Our language is all heading that way...
"What's not to like?"
The impact on other road users.
In the 1960s & 1970s, a family of four could and would fit everything for a fortnight's holiday in a Riley 1.5 (a slight modification of a Morris Minor), including stacks of home-made marmalade and chutney.
(OK, the dog went to kennels - dogs were banned from the island).

They weigh significantly more and are less efficient than an MPV/Car capable of performing most of the same functions. There is a place for SUVs, but we should not be surprised if in future the tax system is used to discourage them in cities/towns.
Note: I expect owners of massive electric cars to get hit with higher taxes as well in the not too distant future.
Weight and size - you should see the size and weight of the lorries full of rock and stone around here. The roads transport rock and the disused railway lines transport 10kg cycles!
