Just in case anyone is considering panic buying a steering wheel

Sim Racing Wheel Buyer’s Guide – 2020 Edition

I have to admit that the PC I purchased last night for the kids to work on at home might have been a slightly higher spec than was really required so I would be able to use it for driving games. Never let a good crisis go to waste Wink I already had a G27 wheel, just nothing suitable to attach it to.

I used to run a rfactor racing forum.

Having been a sim racer for many years, I spent vast amounts of effort on enforcing driving standards even to the point of designing a system to monitor track limits and dish out penalties for repeat offenders.
Every effort was make to make the racing as realistic as possible,
Over-revving the engine did damage to it etc etc

After closing the forum down I moved over to the iRacing platform which is amazing.

In iRacing everything is controlled and enforced just as a real race championship.

They race everything from MX5s to Formula One.

If anyone would like more details or to discuss sim racing in general please feel free to contact me directly.

Unfortunately not, plenty of other cars and large grids most of the time

Pick something like an MX5 without any downforce and the engine at the correct end and the driving experience is likely to be similar.

While I never properly worked out braking the steering feel you get driving these games does help when you get back in the Caterham on track. It is also a lot less expensive crashing the virtual cars.
