Manstein
Had a quick run over to the site of the Jungle cafe (closed for many years) As usual the A6 south of Penrith was deserted apart from a few motor cycles. The road haulage memorial at Shap summit was under renovation.

I know the new owner Tim (architect) ..that's him on the steps with me .... and have been up there for a couple of Picnic Cinema's Withnail & I weekends where you can watch the film. Last year the good lady and I went in character (other pic attached) and went on holiday by mistake.
Manstein
Trust Uncle Monty behaved himself! Does Tim know the age of the building? Has a touch of Wuthering Heights about it!
HendrixsWhiteStratReturns
LOL indeed. It certainly does have a touch of WH about it you're right. As to the age it's tricky as not much is known before 1802 but this is quoted on wiki and sounds right looking at the other local buildings and style: "It is believed that Sleddale Hall was the home of William Rawes, Yeoman of Sleddale sometime between 1740 and 1758". Manstein
If Mr Rawes lived there during those dates he'd have the impertinent Scots to put up with! I wonder if the young pretender called for a brew en route south ?
HendrixsWhiteStratReturns
Perhaps he called in requesting the finest wines known to humanity.....and cake ?
