Yorkshire Pie Run 2019: Pie Another Day

It's back!

For the fourth year, but this time in early June rather than early May, which had become a bit "full" with other events (Dunsfold, Curborough, Fish & Chip run, huge swarms of greenfly).

The date for your diaries (and in the club calendar) is Saturday 8th June 2019:

Event details in the calendar here: https://www.lotus7.club/whats-on/yorkshire-pie-run-2019

After the 2018 event one crew of longstanding and experienced club members declared it "the best blat they'd ever been on", although of course we'd be too modest / biased to comment on that.

What we can say is that when we went on the police instructor led driving course (as seen in Low Flying, July 2018), the motorcycle-loving instructor reeled off half a dozen stretches of tarmac in the county that he considered to be among his personal favourites for riding / driving, and every single one of them featured in the 2018 Pie Run route. It's unlikely we'll remove any of them.

We hope to see you in June!

Antony & Liz

Damn, sorry SM25T... I trawled the calendar and as far as I could see it “only” clashed with the Laon tour.

As Derek suggests though, it’s difficult. Taking the year from the start of BST and avoiding the Speed Championship, events like Stoneleigh, Donington Historic, Silverstone Classic, etc, bank holiday weekends, the Tour de Yorkshire, school holidays (different in South and North Yorkshire!) and my mother’s birthday weekend, June 8th was the only available Saturday before at least September. And that, as above, was by ignoring the clash with the multi-day Laon tour...

For 2019 we've also decided that the return run - for those few who choose to complete it - will end at the Ladybower Inn, our regular monthly meeting pub.

Various reasons including a larger carpark and larger pub than our previous end point, and with the added potential benefit for those coming from distance that it has 7 en-suite bedrooms, so if you want to end the day with a couple of pints and a good kip before heading home on Sunday, give them a call and book...

Update...

No reserved car parking spaces this year. *cry*

Regrettably, We are unable to allocate spaces for visitors to Whitby this season. We are in a difficult position at the moment as we have a large amount of spaces out of use in the Endeavour Wharf car park and a full car park out of use on Church Street due to Pier and Yorkshire Water works.

Therefore as spaces are at a premium they will be allocated on a first come first serve basis.  I am sorry if this is a disappointment to you but hope you appreciate The Council's position.

Ah well. Just get there quicker...

A printed route book will be available on the day.

Additionally, the route will be in MyRoute (if I can persuade it to let me share this year's route to the L7C group), and subject to MyRoute having the odd "moment" and thinking a couple of roundabout approach roads go the wrong way, even though they were corrected in OpenStreetMap several weeks ago...

Update:

Outbound and return routes are now uploaded to MyRoute.

NOTE, YOU STILL NEED TO SIGN ON AT THE START OF THE DAY, PLEASE!

Outbound: https://www.myrouteapp.com/en/social/route/1997534?mode=share

Return: https://www.myrouteapp.com/en/social/route/1997535?mode=share

Couple of notes, thanks to some weirdness in MyRoute...

On the Outbound route, between points 3 and 4 (about 100 yards apart) MyRoute wants you to do a U-turn and a massive detour. Don't. Just go over the roundabout and carry on.

On the Return route, the same thing is true between points 19 and 20.

In both cases this is because OpenStreetMap had a roundabout approach lane marked as "one way" *in the wrong direction*. These were both corrected in OSM weeks ago, but MyRoute appears to have not caught up / loaded newer mapping data in the last month, which seems pretty poor but there's not a lot we can do about that!
