Whilst having been reduced to tidying my overflowing pile of paperwork I came across and old edition of Lowflying that I had sought out to read an article about the Schlump collection before visiting it last September. You can't file these away without a quick flick through and found an article that I remembered penned by our own John Aston "Beyond the Road to the Isles". It starts with him leaving North Yorkshire on the 23rd May 2005 - what a coincidence. I remember it from reading it several times and would suggest searching it out from the archives if you don't remember it.
Great read John covering roads that we've both driven a number of times.

John Aston's recent book "Driven" is a great read.

Blush - thanks . Eagle eyed readers will realise that the essence of 'beyond the road to the isles' is reprised in  the chapter called 'Refuge of The Roads' ,which  was the working title of the book , and the name of my website .

But there is something else, and it is why I owe a big debt of gratitude to the Seven community. I'd been writing angling magazine articles  for years by 2005 but the feedback I got from you lot on the road to the isles piece was extraordinary , and it also came at a very difficult time in my personal life. Bugger it , I thought , I'll write a book , and I did , two of them in succession , in 07 and 12 , both  angling autobiographies   published by  'proper' publishers and both well received  .

Fast forward to 2017 and I sat down at 9am on 1 January with an A4 sheet of ideas and a blank screen.  15 months  and 157 000 words later I had written  the car book.  All thanks to you folk .    Bow    - seriously

I'm torn now, do I look up the article in the archives or use it as an excuse to buy John's book?

It's got to be the book Biggrin
