16 year old Ford Galaxy to dispose of - ideas?

This car has served us well for 14 years ex demonstrator - it is the 2.8 V6 auto. Engine is bullet proof - only work on engine was replacement coil packs! Other things on the car have failed - aircon, parking sensors etc and now signs of problems with the box, so replacement car on its way. Done 110000 miles. Bit of rust now!

I could just scrap it and pocket £204! But wonder if there are any ideas on how to keep it on the road for a bit longer - ie give it to someone who can look after it, or donate the engine? Have spoken to my local mechanic to see if he has any ideas? Might just post on Gumtree and/or eBay?

Hoping for some creative ideas!!? Thanks. Garth

Sell it on eBay. Can be surprising what people will pay.

I went through something similar with our second Espace a couple of years ago. Something failed on the turbocharger and it wasn't worth fixing although everything else was fine.

I could have made more money by breaking it but I didn't want the hassle and it went off to scrap. Seats and light units were tempting though.

Sorry not to be more creative.

Jonathan

PS: We had seven seats and an enormous flat floor with a vast amount of space for a quarter of century. Much missed.

If you're on Facebook, put it on sale in the local For Sale group. The clutch went on my Astra and took the DMF with it. Completely uneconomical for me to repair it. Quoted £900 and the Parker's value of it when fixed was about the same. Similar story, been good for years but 140,000 miles, tired, and now a tow-away job. Best scrap quote a similar £215. I put it up for sale on Facebook, was completely honest about the faults, tatty bodywork, the need to collect it from the local Tanvic Tyres on a trailer. Didn't specify a price, just let people haggle. I had 15 serious offers in the first 30 minutes and let it go for £350. Not a lot, but £135 up on the scrap price and £350 better than I would have been fixing and selling it.

I'd expect it to go for reasonable money having the VR6 engine.  Someone will want it to drop in their Corrado/Golf etc.

If you're looking to buy new, then what about jumping onto one of the manufacturers "scrappage" deals??

Or strip it out and track it mercilessly until the gearbox goes?

Could be a lot of fun.

That's good news ... almost tripled scrap price.

I wish that I'd thought of that.
