310R vs.......

so plans are afoot for my new Caterham.

Has anyone got experience of the 310R in comparison to other Sigma engined 7s, or indeed Duratec? Be interested in views of the collective.

Cheers

Hi, my 135 ti-vct was upgraded to the 310 kit along with lightweight flywheel. The changes to the power although not massive do slter the driving experience totally along with massively improved throttle response

I've driven a 310s and was impressed with the engine. Whilst not full of torque it did rev nicely really coming on song as it got going.  The only negative being quite a lumpy idle and a tendency to stall when starting off.

The car felt a bit lighter than my 360R.

Hi Speedtrip,

would you say it felt as quick as a 360?

I have driven a Sigma 150 and a 360R.   The sigma was the more rounded car, it felt lighter on the front, and the engine doesn't dominate the experience.   The 360 on the other hand is more angry somehow, I think it's due to vibration, and definitely quicker in a straight line.

Mossy7,

My experience with the 310S was limited but I'm inclined to agree with ChrisC.

The main reason I opted for the 360 was it would give me more options to upgrade the engine if I wanted more power. I think I'm correct in saying a CC 210bhp upgrade is around £2k. To get more out of the 1.6 Sigma I think you'd be talking a whole lot more.

If I'm honest the 310 would probably have been enough for me.....well at least for awhile ;-)

I have a 310 SV (Sigma Ti-VCT) with a lightened flywheel.  I had the 310 mod to my 270. Performance is now improved and it revs to 7500 plus,  is more linear in response.  The old 270 was lumpy below 2500rpm. SV  - for the more powerfully built person!  Great for touring an B road blasting.

cheers

Lumpy tick over, stalling not in my 310. Its all good, best bet without killing myself. We all want more power, but its a balance.
