ANPR parking penalty - advice required please

we fell foul of an ANPR parking system the other week, SWMBO got the ticket and got a letter wrong in the registration, and low and behold we get a demand for £100 reduced to £60 is paid within 14 days.

We still have the ticket which I've checked the incorrect rg number with DVLA and it is not issued to a vehicle so there is no change of being accused of transferring a ticket.

this is simple human error.

This is run by a private company........

Do I enter into correspondence with them or simply ignore and wait for the debt collectors letters...

Any legal advice appreciated please.

Thanks

If there is a letter wrong in the registration, how did they get driver details from DVLA, or is it a typo after they got the info.

May be a scam, a certain percentage of the population just pay without looking, used to happen with very realistic fake traffic warden style tickets.

Cars photo taken when entering & leaving the car park. That's how they record the reg no, this then checked against the ticket bought.

Ian they will have the car details from the ANPR.

Neil, under the changes in legislation you have no choice but to enter into communication with them, if you ignore it and it escalates it'll get much bigger, my ex is currently facing a £360 bill for not paying a toll charge of £2.50!!! Go through the correct procedures but try to get some background info on whether they have a right to impose the fine for a simple error, allowing for the fact that you have proof you've paid the fee.

Ah ... I misread the OP as having received the ticket by post .... not entered registration incorrectly on machine.

Thanks Stu,

Thanks for that, been onto money saving expert and followed the guidance on there as the company is or claim to be a BPA company.

Letter and photos of the ticket now sent..... I will update as and when I have an outcome.

Really gets my back up as in 1739 they hung Dick Turpin and yet in 2020 companies are still stealing from people  Censored

Just what Stu says: delay is not in your interest.

Have you got a link to share on the BPA line on appealing and hoping that it's handled as a minor issue, please?

You could point out their error and send them an invoice charging them for your wasted time. I suggest "£100 reduced to £60 if paid within 14 days".

Re #8

Any legal advice appreciated please.

The PePiPoo forum you want is this one -- private parking tickets.  Their advice will depend on the actual parking company involved, but above all the initial advice is DON'T IGNORE, ALWAYS APPEAL.
