Autumn Nations Cup (Rugby Union)
So not for Derek - we all know your preference for RL.

It is a slightly curious format, two round robin groups the 1st vs 1st, 2nd vs 2nd etc.

But there will be some excellent tests for Fiji & Georgia, both of which would benefit from contests against traditional strongholds of the game.

They will both relish an opportunity to play Italy, who are just a makeweight in the Six Nations.

And, if coaches use this opportunity to try out some new players to see how they fare at international level it will be entertaining.

Oh dear, Wales came second again. Not having good start with new Coach. Played much better in 2nd half, but couldn't convert that into points and gave kickable penalties away.

Wales were well beaten.

Group 1 is the tougher of the two and clearly England v Ireland match on 21st will be entertaining.

Whilst the tournament is interesting its a also a bit weird as the matches everyone is looking forward to are the typical 6 nations matches, but its not the 6 nations...

I think the organisers have missed a trick. There should be a reg that says each top tier team has to play 5 players who are either new caps or have less than 5 or something. That would create separation between this and the 6 nations and it would also give the second tier, at least, a chance.

The match yesterday was a case in point, Georgia had no chance, they were always going to get beaten it was just a question of by how much. Having less experienced top tier teams would make the matches more interesting, give the second tier a better chance and allow players to come through.

A good suggestion Richard, it is no more than a series of friendlies, so despite the eagerness of established players to show off their skills/add to their caps/tries/points tally, it should be the time for nearly picks and potential players.

All (nearly all) matches are more interesting when the outcome is in doubt.

P.S.  With Farrell at fly half, England retreat into a ten player game and the poor backs have a lot of time waiting around (it reminds me of games at school where poor handling mean the ball reached me on the wing once or (at most twice) a game).

England v France Womens match was good too and a nail biting affair to the end.

True. Banet scored two good tries but also got herself into the sin bin (I wonder what was happening to her trapped leg).
