Calling Angus and other Model makers

I was given a Caterham 7 JPE master's coachwork model for my birthday.

It was a second had one from eBay where the original owner started but realised it was to much for him. Now He made one mistake and has given up on the first step!!!!

Anyway - the mistake was he put a wrong part on and glued it rather than screwed it and broke part of the steering rack that link to the tie-rods.

So I need to replace the rack only - So where can I get spare parts from???

I cannot see any on ebay and online

I have the part code 0000172 B parts 9801108 - I only need the stearing rack from the this pack, but no problem getting the wrong thing (might need spares myself)

Thanks

Nic

you may need to buy the complete sprue with those parts on it, they do appear from time to time.

I have 2 cars in that state, something to do over the festive break I think

love a HPC

1992 HPC vx2.0 c20xe goodness....

Hi Nic - have you got a photo of the part you need (or a phone snap of the instruction sheet with the part!

I must come on here and post some pics of my R500's!

Thanks for the heads up Harry F!

cheers Nick - so it is the 'non-highlighted' bit you need, and broken version shown in photo?

The bit with the toothed rack?

Got it - well if you aren't in a desperate rush I could maybe re-create it and 3d print one, but it wouldn't be as 'tough' as the kit one....in fact, what you COULD try is taking a piece of sprue, cutting to length, maybe sanding it down to the correct diameter, and using that - file a slight flat on the ends, and drill a small hole for the self tapping screw for the tie rods - the 3d printed part might be a bit fragile at that point...the only thing you would miss is the rack and pinion - as it is built, the steering wheel is connected to the wheels - turn one, etc etc...but in reality you won't do that because it feels delicate....you just need something to tie the wheels together and still allow them to be 'posed' - then you can set the steering wheel angle for display if required!

You don't see any of that part when built (the rubber boots hide it) so actually you could use anything!

About to start the build of a new 1/12 kit. The pictures you have posted on Piston Heads of your own current project show an amazing (in my opinion) recreation of the K series engine bay.
