For a change JustGiving are not taking a fee.

As I understand it, there are 150 charities allied to the NHS and these monies are to be shared across these.

I watched a live interview with him this morning when Michael Ball (his favourite singer) sang You'll Never Walk Alone live to him. Oddly I seem to get something in both eyes at that moment.

What a bloody star. He fought for us 75 years ago and he's still at it.

As he's originally from Keighley, just down the road from me, the local rag announced they've given him the freedom of the place . . . I'm not too sure the reason he is in Bedford wasn't to get away from the place :)

Brilliant news that Captain Tom has been the vector for such generous giving, no mean feat recovering from a fracture at his age and demonstrating considerable fortitude to start raising money. The money will always be welcome but so much better to see the nation get behind him rather than some awful celeb.

Move fast, stay low.

Wonderful story and a great effort and result.

the concerns about where donated money actually goes came up here after about £25m was raised online by a comedienne for a particular part of the fire services who were so brilliant during the recent bushfires. The organization has strict guidelines in their constitution about what donations could be spent on and they didn't match the request. It took several months, probably a bit of legal Mumbo jumbo but their constitution was altered. And they say that money talks!

Well done Captain Tom!

My understanding is that it's not going directly to the NHS but related charities referred to as "NHS Charities Together"; this seems to be an over-arching organisation that represents and supports multiple NHS official charities.

His 100th birthday is on 30th April.

He's now raised over £18 million. Link to his Justgiving page https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/tomswalkforthenhs

Well, the Govt. has just announced that Captain Tom can be a guest at the opening of the new Nightingale Hospital in Harrogate.

Let's hope that's just the start......
