later imperial cages were the same cage but without the dash plates,

That's not quite true.

Early Roadsport cages (I think, made by SafetyDevices) had tubes that linked the forward and rear loops that ran VERY close to the drivers head.

The later Roadsport  cages (made by Caged) have these tubes positioned a little more to the outside of the car, and a bowed to create even better head clearance.

Both of these have a single diagonal between the forward and rear loops.

I think the transition between the two would have been 2003-2005ish.

For a driver, the Caged version is a significant improvement on the earlier ones. For a passenger, both provide very poor passenger access. I'm not tall, but I can not sit in the passenger seat of a car with either cage and standard floors without a helmeted head touching the cage (If I've actually managed to climb into the seat in the first place!).

It was introduced on the 2004 Academy cars.

You could give McMillan motorsport in Hinckley a try.  They just fitted a cage on a 7 for someone I bought a FIA roll bar from.

Then there’s the new ‘track day’ roll cage, probably for metric cars only.

Then there’s the new ‘track day’ roll cage, probably for metric cars only. I like the idea of this for road use.

That wouldn't have helped the occupants of a 7 that landed upside down on a dry stone wall in the IoM, the normal cage did however...

SLR everytime now....

Saw the video of one member who kissed the upright or a metal height restriction on a car park entrance at pace.......sliced the front suspension off kissed the SLR but the passenger retained his head!

.... and was first on scene when a R500K had an off, thankfully the R500 went backwards thro the barbed wire...

SLR, lowered floors and clear aero for me after seein these two

If you use the ABS half doors for, YC plastics to you gain extra elbow room
