Hard top for sale

Does anyone know anything about the Caterham hardtop currently listed on eBay? I wouldn’t want one, but wondered if this was ever a factory option etc. If you do want one it is currently available at £750. Nothing to do with me obviously....

I've never heard of such a thing, though I believe Lotus produced them for the series 4 for a while.

Not sure if it was a factory option etc, for anyone who uses instagram check out shinji_gomi_53

All of the description text is in Japanese but there are lots of pictures of his car with a hard top looking very much like the one in the eBay link.

Caterham certainly did play with these. I seem to remember in Graham Nearn's day, aimed I think for the export market??

Hard top was definitely an accessory for the Srs 4 but was unaware for the Srs 3??

Millwood had an S3 hardtop on display in their showroom back in the John Vicker days.

For this sort of subject, I always turn to the archive, expecting a John Watson article to cast some light upon the subject.

This article has a picture showing the S4 hard top.  http://lowflying.lotus7.club/2006/2006_03_05_7story24.pdf

In this article he writes very specifically about hard tops. http://lowflying.lotus7.club/2003/2003_06_04_Hardtop.pdf

There are others which don't cast additional light on the subject.

I like the idea of a hard top for the winter and looking at the Japanese drivers who seem to use them a lot they actually look OK. But it must be like driving a drum! I can't begin to think how noisy it would be... It would certainly lead to more noisy diff threads!!!
