Richard, if you plan to paddle on the Thames, make sure you have a license - lots of Police on the Thames You'll have to watch yourself in the SW though, lots of rowing clubs, and (speaking as a rower) rowers can be a bit like cyclists They might not see you or simply expect you to move out of the way - and remember, the boats are wiiiiiiiide when you take in to account the bats The biggest problem we have on the Medway is with kayakers on the wrong side of the river, which has resulted in a couple of capsize drills \" class=\"smiley\" /> so make sure you know the tides, the navigation rules and where the currents are too. I'll make sure my brother gives you a wave as he whizzes past \" class=\"smiley\" />

2CV - "SW" ? We live on the upper reaches of the river (West Berkshire), so no tides to worry about and not much in the way of currents (just lots of locks and wiers ). I doubt there are any River Police up there either ! Having said that I do know you are supposed to get a licence from the Environment Agency before launching so will look in to that... There is a big rowing club though so will make sure we steer clear of them, especially if they are like bloody Roadies Richard

If you can wait until the middle of May my friend Andy and myself will be canoeing the length of Windermere. By the end of that trip we should know a fair bit Longy

Sorry Dicky, your profile says SW London so I assumed you meant down Putney way or such like! If you're out in W Berkshire, you won't have any issues Floating around in anything out that way is a bit more civilised than in London Edited by - myothercarsa2cv on 13 Mar 2012 22:41:26

2CV - Ah, I can see the confusion, we were in Putney, but not anymore - location duly changed.... Richard
