Well, not quite (but please excuse the poetic licence) as it was 9 September 2001. How many on here remember The Rumble - Round London Run organised by Charles King-Holford* and Darren ?
60-70 cars met on the roof of Sainsburys car park opposite the showroom in Caterham where after being fed and watered (bacon rolls & coffee) by Caterham Cars half of the participants left to circumnavigate London via A and B road only on a clockwise route and the other half, anti-clockwise.
The route, from memory, was mainly outside of the M25 and route maps/directions were provided (paper versions, not sure SatNavs had been invented then!) and a suitable pub to the North of London had been organised as a meeting place for lunch. The afternoon followed the same pattern as the morning and eventually everyone met back at Caterham for some sort of 'prize-giving'.
I sem to recall it was a long day leaving Caterham around 9am and returning around 6.30pm.
This only come to mind as I've just found my old T-shirt commemorating the event! And yes it still actually fits
* Charles also instigated the London Larks where a number of seveners would meet again at Caterham Cars showroom around 5.30am on a Sunday morning and have a grand old blat in the Kent and Surrey countryside before anyone else was awake. Happy days....
