It was 20 years ago today....

Well, not quite (but please excuse the poetic licence) as it was 9 September 2001. How many on here remember The Rumble - Round London Run organised by Charles King-Holford* and Darren ?

60-70 cars met on the roof of Sainsburys car park opposite the showroom in Caterham where after being fed and watered (bacon rolls & coffee) by Caterham Cars half of the participants left to circumnavigate London via A and B road only on a clockwise route and the other half, anti-clockwise.

The route, from memory, was mainly outside of the M25 and route maps/directions were provided (paper versions, not sure SatNavs had been invented then!) and a suitable pub to the North of London had been organised as a meeting place for lunch. The afternoon followed the same pattern as the morning and eventually everyone met back at Caterham for some sort of 'prize-giving'.

I sem to recall it was a long day leaving Caterham around 9am and returning around 6.30pm.

This only come to mind as I've just found my old T-shirt commemorating the event! And yes it still actually fits Yes

* Charles also instigated the London Larks where a number of seveners would meet again at Caterham Cars showroom around 5.30am on a Sunday morning and have a grand old blat in the Kent and Surrey countryside before anyone else was awake. Happy days....

You were driving the first version of C7 CAT at the time no doubt.

20 years ago that we first met at Le Mans as well Chris!  IIRC your 7 was still green/yellow.

I wasn't yet a Caterham owner in 2001, but I had joined the club in anticipation & I remember the photos in Low Flying. It looked like a great event. Perhaps it's time for another? Driving

Stephen/Stu, it was green/yellow and still had a x/flow engine.

Nigel, sadly I can't see it happening for a number of reasons not least the increase in traffic volumes

Great post Chris, my first event with the Seven Club.

Favourite  moment was lining up at red traffic lights on a north London dual carriage way in a pack of Sevens.

About a dozen in all with no other interlopers so looked like a race track grid start.

A lot of throttle blipping going on prompted a police car to join the back of the pack.

The lights went green and we all raced of in total unison.

On the rev limiters through the gears to exactly 70 mph. Police in hot pursuit.

But no case to answer, they followed the pack for several miles before turning off!

Oops - sorry!  Just riffing off of the thread subject.

I was there and still have the polo shirt :) was it really 2001? that's quite scary.

My first event was the Se7ens list Oxford meet in 1999, I remember getting some very strange looks when 40+ se7en type cars parked up in the M40 Oxford services. Lots of familiar faces such as DVA, Jonty, Vinnie.

That was back in the day when my car was still a 1700 Crossflow! things are a little different now.

Hehe that's amazing, brings back a few memories. The V8 Westy was interesting, built as a drag strip racer.
