Dad used to bring a stone (in weight) box of kippers back from Edinburgh when he went to see my aunt. She worked for one of the trawler companies so has good connections ;-)

Wrightpayne said A friend of a friend used to work in Paediatrics and gynecology often referred to as 'Nippers and Kippers'

If you've read any of Adam Kay's books, you'd know he referred to similar roles as "Brats and Twats".

I bought an assortment of cheeses from a supermarket on a trip to Le Mans. By the time we reached the ferry port I had a plastic bag filled with warm cheese soup! That ended up in a bin too.

In terms of kippers, I do like Fortunes in Whitby. Yum
