MOT

So my Caterham MOT is due on Saturday and booked for Thursday. Now we are all on lockdown, am I allowed to take it for testing? Because of the nature of the car it is booked with a spocialist about 18 miles from home, since the local testers do not understand Caterhams!

I can't see how you could argue for that being a justifiable journey.  Even if you are a 'key worker' you'd have a hard time claiming it's your commuting car.

Edit: personally I'd cancel it.

I totally agree, but what if it was my only car.

My Seven IS my commuting car. It is also the only car I have running at the moment.

Its MOT is due in April. The VED is due at the end of March but I may put it on SORN while the kerfuffle is at its height.

So as long as it's your method of transport to your nationally important job....crack on.

If VED due at the end of March you can tax it now.

Interestingly all HGV mot's have been given a 3 month extension to their present mot but cars and light van testing is still going ahead. Michale Gove even said testing and essential maintenance along with fuel stations would still carry on, on the tv this morning.

If it's your only car, take it, if you don't NEED to use it, don't. Mines due in May, It won't be going anywhere.

My tintop went in yesterday, and of course it failed, I can't remember the last time I had a car fail, certainly last century. The NSF caliper has a stuck piston (4 pots) causing brake binding. Hadn't felt a thing, no pulling or anything, I've had the same happen previously (different car) and it was obvious. Last night the garage reckoned they could get a caliper today. If they can I expect I will have to pick it up, to make room for more important workers vehicles. Luckily we still have my wife's car if not.
