New Caterham Technical Discussion Group

Not to detract from the excellent TechTalk forum on here, but in case people were unaware (as I was, till a few minutes ago) there's a new Caterham Technical Discussion group that's started up over on Facebook.  Apparently there's a strong emphasis on good behaviour, being respectful to others and so on - such strange ideas... Smile .

Link (if it works) is here .

I don't do social media either, and it is clear that there is far less traffic here, and fewer items come up for sale here. More seven owners seem to be using Facebook as part of their seven ownership than use blatchat

I agree with Derek, why do people have to interfere with a system that works perfectly well that was designed by the club for the members. I don't and never will do social media.

With social media, it really is a question of which Borg you want to be assimilated by - ZuckerBORG if you do Facebook, PLA Borg if you do TikTok, etc.

As an IT professional I avoid the most insidious social media sites and treat their software the same as I would a computer virus, as the aim is the same - grab as much personal info to use against you as they can. Not giving them any useful personal info is not a defence to any degree, either, as the breadcrumbs you leave are enough to build up a pattern of your online presence to invade your privacy, anyway.

I'm on the forum here quite a lot these days (is it me or is BlatChat beginning to regain some of its former mojo?), though not as much as some people (eh, Derek?).   I am a great proponent of Blatchat in its various forms - Chitchat, Techtalk and MarketPlace in the main - they are wonderful Club services.  But I am also on some of the Caterham-specific Facebook sites as well, although to a lesser extent.

Each approach has its own strengths and weaknesses.  Try searching on Facebook - dooh...   But if you want a quick response from a wide audience (remember, Facebook feeds content to its users so there are likely to be more people actively online at any one time) then Facebook can be quicker that Blatchat.  And if you're lucky, one of the responses you receive might even be accurate!

But seriously, I see these platforms as complementary and not exclusive.  And I know there's a growing interest and persuasive argumentation for other channels as well, such as Instagram and TikTok.  At the end of the day this is (for most of us) just a hobby and having more ways in which to share relevant information as well as friendly banter is surely not a bad thing?

Never noticed your bluntness, Derek Smile .

And as for backing-off - I wouldn't, if I were you, not until you've won the prize for most posts in a year Clap .

I use both and don't see that one detracts from the other. I find FB Groups far easier to search though and I save topics/posts for future reference in appropriately named folders.
