I've finished my DIY grill. It's made out of 4mm diameter 316 stainless steel rod, I had to buy two 2.5m pieces from Ebay.
You will notice that the mounting pieces are well out of alignment on right side from the front, this is because the original grill was wonky on my car as fitted by Caterham and I didn't want to drill more holes in the nose. Here it is from the front:
And exposing my not very brilliant welding, from behind:
And here it is on the car taken while out on a run this afternoon:
Some distortion occurred while welding the bars, so it isn't perfect, but I am happy with the end result
It looks pretty authentic.
