#149, Doug,

"In far more positive news McDonalds are serving MilkShakes again."

Is that E10 Milkshakes, or E5 Milkshakes? Smile

And just think what they're doing to your power to weight ratio! Confused

Esso Synergy Supreme + is 99 Octane and in most places is ethanol free however not all Esso stations sell it. You can find your nearest supplier using the Esso website

So now the fuel 'crisis' seems to be coming to an end we appear to have a 'Xmas toy crisis' being stoked up due, according to various 'industry experts' profiteering on behalf of the shippers, containers being in the wrong place, a shortage of truck drivers, and/or a desire by the Chinese to stop polluting the planet*.

Am I the only one who thinks tens of thousands of containers full of junk not making it here might be a good thing?

* I made that last one up.

Apparently to ship a container used to cost £2000 now its £16000 that's £160 on the cost of your average washing machine.

I think toy shortage is the least of anyone's worries.

On a positive note tho maybe it will mean that making washing machines here in the UK will become viable again though it'll take a few years and personally i have my doubts.

Washing machines are already made, viably, in the UK. Have been for a few years now and hopefully more of that will happen.

They're also made in several EU countries that don't require shipping in £16000 containers from the Far East.

I just don't understand why anyone would do that in the first place, in all honesty. Who on here has a Chinese appliance then?

I know that appliances 'made' in other countries may often have Chinese parts, sadly, but at the end of the day there's only one reason you get things from China and, if you want equal quality in the finished product, you won't get that in the first place. Unfortunately many don't care about quality, just the price.

It's really time we woke up to that, IMO, if it's not already too late.

One of many words we might never have needed to understand, though it is a shame our politicians were not aware of what they meant in advance either Grumpy

#158 The global shortage of HGV drivers?

Which has been around for decades and, in the main, has been ignored by both governments and the industry as long as they could exploit cheap foreign labour.

Doesn't seem too long ago they were predicting the redundancy of hundreds of thousands of drivers because of the imminent autonomy of trucks and vans. That went well.
