Power generation in the UK in the last year

I spent many years providing and supporting ComAp G59 MainsPro protection relays into the UK power generation industry + ComAp generator synchronising control systems. I was very lucky to be in the right place, at the right time, with the right product. We sold thousands every year and it was used by many people that needed to syncronise with the grid.

The G59 side was mainly PV, but also used extensively by Diesel and gas powered UK generators manufacturers with our control system added, for short term parallel operation, known as STOR. Many of these STOR sites had 60 to 100 Mwe of diesel sets installed, that my system could start remotely and be ramping on load within 20 seconds.  It was impressive to watch and needed when the grid required a quick response to ensure that the voltage and frequency did not go out of limits.

I retired three years ago, so rather out of touch now with the latest developments.

When I started work in that industry, coal was king. Amazing turnaround in my lifetime. Could never have forseen that in 1976.
