A reminder Stephen (kindly meant). The AR9 are just caretaking, it will be up to the new team to change things like that.

Correct Roger, there's plenty enough needing doing already!

"Initially, when AR9 was set up, it was stated that none of the old MT would be eligible to be on the new Committee.  After the call for volunteers was made, and with the need to keep the club operational, AR9 has had to relax that constraint.  This has been necessary to ensure certain key skills are available to us as a club"

Am I the only one concerned about this? Or are the words "on a temporary basis" missing. If previous list of MT members shows significant overlap with list in 4Q 2020 expect my direct debit to bounce in January.

I agree with Derek's post in another thread - one out, all out.

Opplock,

Its a fair comment but it is reliant on willing volunteers coming forward.

What is your suggestion when no one volunteers for a particular essential role?

Opplock. You are not alone with your concerns. I have already expressed mine to the AR9.

An update

From post no.1:

Initially, when AR9 was set up, it was stated that none of the old MT would be eligible to be on the new Committee.  After the call for volunteers was made, and with the need to keep the club operational, AR9 has had to relax that constraint.  This has been necessary to ensure certain key skills are available to us as a club   So far this seems to be working: Dunsfold is organised to take place on 2nd May, we have our normal plot at the Stoneleigh Show, regalia is still available, the sprint championship and track days are still running, area meetings are still taking place.

AR9 is not the new MT, it is a temporary group with the job of appointing a new Club Committee, so that we have an effective team to take the club forward.  To form the new Club Committee we need volunteers to take on various roles.  Some club members have already volunteered, and some appointments made, but more volunteers are needed before we can complete the appointments.  Once we are confident that no more volunteers will come forward then AR9 will complete the appointments.  For new Committee members help will be on hand to enable them to take on those roles.  Once that is done, with a new Club Committee in place and confirmed by an AGM, then AR9 will disband.  It is expected that this process will be completed well before the end of this calendar year.

To clarify the current situation::

  • Despite having "some" applications for roles we have not had many
  • Of the applications we've had, some are members that are barred due to the original "no MT since 2016" remit
  • Of the applicants we have that fall within the original remit, we wouldn't have enough to be able to replace the AR Working Group let alone form a new team to run the club

Therefore after much deliberation and discussion, and not an easy decision to arrive at considering the circumstances, we have chosen to remove the original remit and replace it with one more workable. We have therefore restructured our goal as follows:

  • The club structure will be aligned with Motorsport UK's requirements for affiliated clubs
  • An AGM will be held later in the year and annually thereafter, the structure and exact timing to be decided
  • All club committee (team) positions will be re-appointed at the AGM, although candidates and voting may be done in advance of the AGM. Positions can be appointed for 1,2 or 3 years to be agreed with the candidates taking up the roles. Ideally appointed candidates would shadow the outgoing person for a period to create a strong handover.
  • The "voting positions" on the committee will be determined to create a balance of the activities that we do and the officers we need. Some or all of the voting positions will be club director positions.
  • No committee member in a voting role will be able to vote until after their position has been confirmed at the AGM, this will give members more input into the people steering the club.
  • There can be additional committee positions but these will not have voting rights, thereby keeping the balance and not allowing favour to one activity area, eg. speed events, tours etc.
  • Some committee positions may be considered to be "without portfolio" to allow members with advantageous backgrounds or suitable experience to be more involved and a real benefit to the club.

This is our agreed plan for an ongoing structure but very obviously in starting without a committee or management team we need to adapt it slightly. With this in mind and very aware that some appointments may be members who have served since 2016, we have decided that any new appointments outside the AR9 Working Group will not be voting positions until after an AGM. This we believe is key to being able to appoint good people but maintain the neutrality that we must.

My apologies for the lengthy post but despite many differences of opinion being shown by some members, there has been many many hours of discussion to arrive at this format. Our role is to secure the club for the 99% of members who really have no interest in club politics, the 1% that have strong opinions need to compromise somewhat and give the AR9 team time to achieve the goals. Through this we will endeavour to maintain a high level of accountability and transparency and hopefully we can all move forward together.

I hope this clarifies things a little

Stu.
