I like "umbragists" Biggrin  I'll put it in my book next to "confected outrage".  Up to now the preserve of right wing "snowflakes" but it seems to have infected the left too.

I absolutely agree that you smile and behave yourself with the police. More so with American police. The person being arrested was running away, was shooting him dead the best way of dealing with the situation?

Shooting people running away isn't going to do anything for the police image and doubtless the law supports that perspective but more probably is seldom enforced. I feel genuinely sorry for the good cops out there in a difficult position. This clip shows what I think is probably a good man ina difficult position stating his case. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=T7MAO7McNKE

Derek - 1. Not shot him. As I've already started it seems a little disproportionate to kill the man. 2. I'm sure the police who don't carry guns would be able to tell you how they would deal with it.

It is about the proportionate use of force and I suspect the cop will say he believed he was about to be fired upon with a real firearm. There were but a few seconds in a darkened car park after a violent struggle and he had to make a decision. Whether it was the right one is for the courts to decide and the subsequent consequences. I am sorry I can't seem to paste an active link but it is worth cutting and pasting the link into your URL. He comes across as a decent man trying to do a difficult job. That his commenta elicited no further questions suggests that the audience know the truth of the matter. This will most likely result in cops not chasing as is often the case here with the resultant drop in capture and conviction rates. The victims of those crimes will be indignant and the cycle continues.

Move fast, stay low.

Derek - you never upset me ! You continually amuse me , shock me with your ...err..robustly right wing , take no prisoners views but you are a good counterpoint to milquetoast liberals like me . Even though you are usually wrong Clap
