Just spotted these for sale on another forum

Selling set of 4 Caterham Lightweight 15" Wheels

I've had a change of plan for my wheels so am selling my current set.
These are 10 spoke Caterham CSR wheels in anthracite:
Diameter: 15"
Width: 6.5"
PCD: 4 x 108
ET: 13
Bore: 63.4
Weight: 6.6kg
They are perfect fit for my GBS Zero (with Ford hubs) but just not right for me.
They are straight, some lacquer peel (mostly to the inside edge though) and some small marks here and there on the rim edge.
Would like a quick no hassle sale if possible, take them away for £325.
Collection only please from Cheshire, CW2.

Alan - you haven't provided a link so it's difficult to check but my initial reaction is to caution that these sound to be 'standard' 15" ten-spoke wheels and not a set of CSR rims (which have a different offset on the fronts and somewhat wider rears).

But if they are CSR rims then it's likely that Ian Bruce will have snapped them up already!

I'm on it James *hehe*

I'm currently getting a standard 15" front converted to CSR spec, and if that goes well I won't need any more so the market may open up *thumb_up*

(I agree, they don't look like CSR's from the photos I can see)

Oh - you got a car to sell or something, Igor??  *rofl*

Seriously, though, the idea of a S3 car that features a true IRS is really interesting.  The compactness and agility of a S3 car combined with the ride quality, handling and traction advantages that the IRS offers over and above he Dedion arrangement.

I guess that Freestyle, back in the day, got the front suspension sorted but I'm not aware of a S3 rear IRS being made available commercially.  That said, as I type I think I do remember a (former?) member of the Club having a S3 car that was built with CSR IRS as a one-off by a Caterham Cars engineer, so maybe it is possible after all.

Just dreaming, I guess, but in that context my ultimate Seven would combine CSR suspension within the more compact S3 architecture.

The only drawback of the CSR IRS I can see is the absence of the anti roll bar. It limits it on the track with the lean and to compensate for it with springs/dampers is wrong. Otherwise head and shoulders above the DeDion car - hands down. The 620 is a bit of a crazy beast as CC gave it 350 ponds/inch springs front and back. Hopeless!!!

Hah - have just made contact with Chris, who owns the S3 car with IRS, and hopefully he will post here with some more details.

Just to satisfy our curiosity and interest, of course.

And with apologies for the blatant hijacking of this thread...

Hi all, yes I have the car built by the ex caterham Engineer Owain  Davies, as you said has CSR back end, modified to fit a S3 chassis, has 15" wheels with 9" rims on the rear.  When I first got it the suspension set up was incorrect, so took it to Boss racing to be corner weighted and set up, they found that the car had too much rake that could not be adjusted out as the standard rear progressive springs are too long.  Only today I went in to Boss again and had shorter springs fitted, by Rob and Gary May (of Freestyle fame) non progressive type.  Also had ZZS tyres fitted all round.  I found previously on track that the car would understeer out of tight hairpins (Druids at Brands) Rob of Boss racing said to see how it goes now after small mods done, but probably due to car having much more grip at the rear, It could cause this understeer.  He said if it continues they could fit a Gary May adjustable Sway / roll bar at front, which could be softened to suit track conditions.  Otherwise I would have to go for a track orientated set up with positive camber on the front, this causes car to skip about on the road though, which is why I have a more road biased set up.  What I have seen at Boss is a car they put together with standard CSR rear end attached to S3 chassis, with wide track front, this is being raced by them.   I also saw a car there today that was unbelievable, inboard front, didn't check rear, but has a supercharged 2.5 Duratech.  Now putting out somewhere near 400 bhp.

Anyway I'm going to Brands next week, so I'll wait to see how it goes.

Not at moment it is next option to upgrade to, if I find car still, washing out in hairpin.  Bearing in mind that really to improve handling, I would need to convert 15 inch rims to 13's, which is quite a mod at the back.  in my previous post, I talked about positive camber, just came to me, that is not what Rob, suggested, he meant to reverse toe in to toe out, as set on their race cars.  Sorry for any confusion.  We also concluded, that probably better to improve me by tuition, instead of improving the car.

Just to consolidate the complete and total hijacking of this thread (actually, maybe we should move it to TechTalk as well!!),

an example of what we were talking about above - IRS for S3.

Neat...
