Group Bulk buy Powerspeed 4-2-1 complete system discounted

Ladies & Gentlemen

I am organising a group buy for a K-Series Powerspeed 4-2-1 complete system.  I've wanted one for a couple of years now and as they never really come up for sale I've decided to bite the bullet and get one made.

I’ve spoken with Lee & Andy and have the follow confirmed details.

We need 4 of us, so 3 more to get a 10% discount.

Full 4 2 1 System without CAT = £1500 inc VAT                   (Discounted price £1350)

Full 4 2 1 System with integrated CAT = £1680 inc VAT       (Discounted price £1512)

Fully polished = £200 +VAT

Free delivery or Fitting @ £200 +VAT

The non polished finish was described to me a being Scotch-brite "Matte", so you'll see the colouring of the metal where welded.  I've not got a picture to show this but they said it had a race finish and does look nice.

Payment or a deposit required from all of us before the first system will be shipped or fitted.  They have been let down in the past.

Please only commit below if you are genuinely interested.  Obviously 4 is the minimum - more welcome.

Once we have a full list I’ll DM you all so we can agree a deadline to make the payment/deposit.

So who’s with me for a full system?

1. (Me) 2004Academy80 - Full 4 2 1 System + CAT + Polish + Fitting.  (£1,992)

2. RussellS - Full 4 2 1 System without CAT + Fitting.

3. +1 will confirm end of Sept.

4. Chris whitlow Full 4 2 1 System with integrated CAT = £1680 inc VAT       (Discounted price £1512)

Highside43 - able to purchase at end of year.

Thanks

Seems very expensive to me (even with the discount) for what is essentially a very small system. I’ve had full stainless exhausts (with some stunning manifolds) made before for much less. I’m new to caterhams and I’m Not meaning any offence, just genuinely curious as to why it’s priced as it is. Captive audience?

Hi Mike

I'm just a customer with no commercial ties to Powerspeed, although expensive I think you get what you pay for.

DVA (well known and respected tuner) recommend Powerspeed and another one or two manufacturers.  Yes there will be others but I'm happy to go with a tried and tested formula.  Powerspeed are my favorite of what is available.

If you have a look at CC site vs Powerspeed the later is cheaper for what you get on a like for like basis.

Residual value is also something to consider, if and when I come to sell my car, having a Powerspeed system over another "brand" not synonymous with Caterham's in my opinion will not be as easy to sell.

Happy motoring.

Alex

No worries Alex was just wondering. I’ve heard the 4-2-1 are a must if upgrading to more power (i’ve Been reading through the DVA site myself) I was just surprised at the price for the system compared to my previous cars. They do look nice in the pics though, especially over the one I currently have. Maybe one day....

Do you have Computational fluid dynamic analysis you could share to show why one is better than the other? or back to back ME vs powerspeed rolling road data?

This thread is a group buy for the subject system. Your additions are a little off topic and negative.

To date I’ve not seen a single picture of a Caterham with a Michael Edwards system. Their Facebook has some nice pictures though.

no..... do you...?

Though having seen plenty of systems over the years I can tell a good well made system from a poor one.

Merely pointing out another option which you might not have been aware of

There are several photos of Caterhams on Mikes site, he makes a lot of systems for the race guys, several members including myself have his systems too.

Good luck with the BB.

I’m organising a groupbuy for a powerspeed system, not asking for opinion or alternatives.

No of course I don’t but I’m not saying one is better than the other or making defamatory statements of the other.

I’m sure ME systems are as you describe, exquisite, and as their site is currently under construction I’m not able to see the Caterham examples you refer to, but the google images I’ve just searched are race car oriented with bonnet cut outs which isn’t an option for me as I’m not looking to re-skin but obviously have a more direct flow path, which might be why you say “their collector isn’t a good design”.

I’m an automotive design engineer with 20 years experience I’ve worked with both hot and cold end exhaust engineers many of which are petrol heads like us so have discussed this in great depth.

I've done my research, the PS system will improve airflow, reduces dB levels and meets my form and function requirements, not to mention they’re also recommended by one of, if not the most respected k-series tuners. That’s not to say if DVA were to update their website ME wouldn’t be there also!

I wish you well.

I have a Powerspeed Exhaust on my SLR - looks and sounds great, so a big *thumbs_up_thumb* from me.

I had my car noise tested for the first time a couple of weeks ago and it came out at 90dBs at 4500 RPM which I thought was rather good, given the reputation SLRs have for making noise!

Ditto for look and sound of a Powerspeed system on a K. Make sure you read the instructions and do step 1 which apparently (I haven't seen them but know what happens if it isn't done......) and remove your alternator and turn the back of it through c. 180 degrees so the plug attaches in the 7 o'clock postion as opposed to the 1 o'clock they are usually (so it's in front of the engine mount) otherwise you'll have bother....... Drop me a PM if needed and I can send pics of how it should look once done

Hi I'm a newbie,

Got my Caterham 7 1.4 K in May 2018 only 2k on the clock

Just had the wheels converted from 14" to 13"  by Nick Potter

Got the Caterham booked in with Dave Andrews in October to have the K01 kit fitted

Which should give an extra 8-10 BHP

Dave, did say that a a decent 4-2-1 would give and improvement.

And the system below ticks all the boxes whats the drop dead date for the group buy ?

And whats your opinion on on having or not having a CAT fitted.

Full 4 2 1 System with integrated CAT = £1680 inc VAT       (Discounted price £1512)

Fully polished = £200 Plus VAT

Fitting =£200 Plus VAT

Best regards

Jon

Hi Jon

Congrats on your purchase and getting booked in with Dave. Exactly what I did, you’ll not be disappointed.

I’ll ask about other people adding to the group buy as the minimum 4 is met, I don’t see why not! I’m having a cat integrated. I personally don’t want the faff come MOT time.

Will let you know when I have more detail

thanks

Alex
