WANTED : FOR SALE section split from WANTED....

Im seeking a forsale section in usable condition, free from wants. I know theses havent been available for some time but maybe if others were interested we could get a bulk buy on the go ?.

If anyone has such a forsale section knocking around at the back of the garage could they please dig it out ?.

Failing that I'll blame it on Brexit or facebook or somefink.

It's a bit like politics - you can't please everyone. When there were 2 forum sections we got complaints about that - no-one ever looked in "Wanted" before posting a for sale item.

If the "tick box" to select FS or Wtd were more obvious, would that be better?

It's easy enough to have NDP re-instate the Wanted section and re-name the Marketplace to For Sale but it will have a cost. Not so easy to find the "Wanted" ads and move them though unless members have selected the type!

No Finmac, I would suggest that the minority are vociferous and the majority are quiet.

Giving more prominence to the wanted posts is clearly an improvement. What will be noticed soon is that posts will be headlined "FOR SALE" or "WANTED" followed by the headline. If simplification and fewer divisions are wanted (people asked for this) then subsuming the much less used sections into relevant popular ones (in this case the wanted and bulk buys with for sale) is logical and perfectly manageable.

You will also notice that our clever members will edit their original posts from "FOR SALE" to "SOLD" (as you, Finmac, did).

GJT, why would you assume that the ones who are vocal are the minority? I gave an example of another forum that works the old way and works well, there's plenty more the same. Or are we determined to reinvent the wheel?

Hi Stu,

I'm putting a case forward.

Of the readers of BC, a dozen have posted in this thread. I'm fairly confident we have more than two dozen readers.

Even with the polarisation of opinion, I am allowed to make the alternative case, surely?

Can the software be altered so that when posted in 'Marketplace' you can click a box 'For Sale' or 'Wanted' and it automatically puts FOR SALE or WANTED at the start of the post? Might make it clearer/ easier for advertisers.

Tom, it's already there but you need to go to "advanced" which is more long winded than it needs to be ... surely it would make much more sense if there was not a second tab and the choices were on the main posting page?

Why does everything with this forum have to be so complicated?

You need a degree in searching to use the search; you need a degree in posting in marketplaces to ...

ETC...

Stephen,

The silent majority does not necessarily agree - they may have moved away from the site. It may be a coincidence, but it's a bit strange how the activity dropped when the forum changed. I think, and this is not meant to nag at Shaun - it's the software, it has a total lack of user friendliness in any way.

Do it like a Seven: Make it silly simple. As it is now it's like selecting sports mode in a BMW M5 - you have to turn and push the jog wheel around ten times to get there where in other cars you have one button to push. I don't like the BMW user interface...
