Area Representative manningpaul Posted April 1, 2020 Area Representative Share Posted April 1, 2020 Advisory on recent MOT and as I now have plenty of time on my hands thought I ought to replace. Nearside but I guess they are both the same Thanks, Paul.
SM25T
Play or corrosion ? The rod itself, or the track rod end ba joint .... or something in the rack end ?
Area Representative manningpaul Posted April 3, 2020 Author Area Representative Share Posted April 3, 2020 The rack end as far as I remember. Small amount of play.
ECR
The joint at the rack end is spring loaded and adjustable IIRC. You will need to take the joint apart anyway if you're going to fit a new arm so you will be doing exactly the same thing if you adjust it. The cup and locking ring are pegged to the rack with a small pin which needs to be drilled out. The joint can then be adjusted to take up play and a new hole drilled for a new pin. Worth having a look before you get a new tie rod
Area Representative manningpaul Posted April 3, 2020 Author Area Representative Share Posted April 3, 2020 Thanks, presume you just take up any play but not overtighten?
ECR
Yes, you can compare the feel with the other end that the tester was happy with if you're not sure
