Blue_SV
HiAfter a winter upgrade of some Tillett seats, I need to fit a head restraint behind the seat to the rollbar. I purchased said item from Caterham but I am now perplexed on the fitting of the 2 items that arrived. Apart from nuts () am I missing something here? Could someone send a photo/advice of the fitment? Of course, I may have bought the wrong part even though it clearly states 'for FIA roll bars'... Area Representative Richard Price Posted April 25, 2019 Area Representative Share Posted April 25, 2019 Jon,Which roll over bar do you have? Earlier "FIA" with a single diagonal, or the later "trackday" with twin crossed diagonals? The head restraint in the photo is to suit the later "trackday" roll bars. Wrightpayne
Later X bars have two (each side) ferrules welded into the tube to bolt the bracket to.The old FIA bar headrest steady uses an array of tubes and exhaust U bolts clamped to the side and rear tubes of the bar. Something like the following, which is for a cage and only half of the bracketry needed.....https://caterhamparts.co.uk/headrests/2264-steady-bracket-headrest-fia-full-cage.html?search_query=FIA&results=30Ian
Blue_SV
Thanks both - I have the older single diagonal FIA bar. I will have a ‘discussion’ with Caterham since their website simply states FIA bar. Clearly they only think modern! The array of bracketry sounds interesting, I will need to explore further.Jon

Drumster
Hi Jon,This is the type of set-up you need for the older style single diagonal bar
Dobson_justin
I have one like that you can have for £10 if you want it? Will be at Curborough.
Area Representative Richard Price Posted April 29, 2019 Area Representative Share Posted April 29, 2019 Jon,Justins offer should be what you need. But, as yours is an SV, and Justins was an S3, its very likely that it won't be a straight fit. With this style of head restraint, there was always some drilling of parts required to make the parts line up. Not because it was made wrongly, but because the "adjustment" was by drilling fixing holes in different places....Similarly, the side steady may actually be a different part between S3 and SV. Dobson_justin
Oh, missed the SV bit....
Blue_SV
Justin, Richard, Chrisi will take up your offer and I will use Richard’s advice to see if I can make the necessary ‘adjustment’. The SV is only slightly wider and there seems too be some leeway on the thread.Jon
Area Representative Nick Chan Posted May 4, 2019 Area Representative Share Posted May 4, 2019 I’ve got an SV one for older imperial chassis if you want for £10. I can send it over with Richard if that suitscheers Nick
richy
Jon,If the original items would be suitable for a slimmer and younger car than yours , I may be able to save you from having to post them back to Caterham.Richy
Blue_SV
RichyThanks for the offer but after some other advice, I was able to 'adjust' the one supplied to fit - well at least it passed scruitineering at Curbs...Jon
