Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted April 27, 2021 Leadership Team Share Posted April 27, 2021 We're trying to solve a problem with the built in rev counter shiftlight on a 2001 Superlight being illuminated continuously, has anyone had the same issue?It's been a problem since an engine swap at which point we added ACES shiftlights (which work perfectly) but the o/e shiftlight is now on continuously whatever the revs. It's no longer needed so could be disconnected if that's possible outside the rev counter? The MBE tachometer pulse is very low frequency (IIRC 1 pulse per 2 revolutions) and it could be that the engine swap has changed this - or the ACES unit has been set to the wrong frequency or shift ranges (can be done accidentally quite easily). I would go through the menu and look at what it's set to, but I would have thought it is fairly easy to remove, or disable, by simply unplugging the ACES unit. Do you have additional shift lights fitted or just the single rev counter light?Engine swap was for a bigger power K-Series but same ignition setup, plus the ACES unit works perfectly.Stu. revilla Posted April 28, 2021 Share Posted April 28, 2021 The built in shift light works completely different to, and is independent of the ECU tacho output. It is driven directly by the ECU.It's actually driven off the air conditioning clutch control output of the ECU, and the ECU programming was changed to turn on the air con at a certain RPM. This was a very specific programming change and only included on a small number of Caterham-specific ECU software builds such as the SuperSport.If you've swapped the engine and swapped the ECU, you probably won't now have the firmware on the ECU to drive the shift light.
