Beenster
Hi All, My first post on blatchat (I suspect not my last), I have ordered a 420R with sadev 6 speed sequential and Covid notwithstanding I hope to take delivery in May 2021. I guess it's normal to spend over 4 months obsessing about everything in preparation for your build! I am new to Caterham builds but have raced for a couple of seasons in Academy back in 2012.I have a concern that the Caterham assembly manual may not be particularly detailed with regard to installing the sadev so I have been hunting forums, YouTube etc for any posts to see if there are special requirements. Has anyone fitted one or could point me to some good resources? Please bear in mind I am a total spanner noob.Cheers,Simon
David_Long
Yes, I fitted one to an R400. You don't need to worry - it's all straightforward. My blog here http://duratecindetail.com/htm%20pages/page1.htm

ChrisC
If you get a chance to view the Discovery channel, Dearm cars, Caterham episode. You will see, for a few seconds, a Duratec / Sadev being installed in the factory. What I found strange was the engine / gearbox was installed with the shift lever in place. This increased the angle needed during the install engine install. I personally would struggle to get the angle / height this would need. That said I have no first hand experience on installing a Sadev, the shift lever may be removable during the install.
7 wonders of the world
Cant see why the lever cant be fittid afterwards, if not just pop the box in first then fit the engine.
ChrisC
And just looks at David's blog and it shows an engine install without the shift lever.
David_Long
It's worth saying that my R400 had the Cosworth CSR type dry sump which is a very tight fit in the S3. I suspect the Raceline sump will allow both engine and gearbox to be fitted together. The gearstick is just 3 cap bolts and the clevis joint, so quite easy to remove and refit when in the car.
