Boot security

Has anybody fitted a locking box into their boot. Looking for something I can secure the steering wheel and battery master key and other odds and sods in. Would appreciate recommendations

Hi. Have a look at Pacsafe. They come in various sizes and ideal to leave expanded in the boot or tucked away and then to secure a rucksack or steering wheel etc

Cable lock (combination) around cage diagonals in the boot for the steering wheel. Plenty of room in the man bag for everything else!

To be honest I bought a SBFS wheel bag and just use that and on overnight trips pack so it can come to the room where I'm sleeping but I've really only done one night stands

I just undo my belt a loop or two, feed it through the wheel one spoke, then back into the belt loops and resecure.  

 

Just remember to remove it again before clambering back in!

I have had my Seven for 22 years, driven 130,000 miles and parked up all over the place. (And I think I don't use it enough). I have never returned to the car to find the boot or tonneau unpoppered.

By all means, if you have a removable steering wheel put it in the boot and use a bicycle lock to secure it there. But what else do you want to leave in the car? Take your valuables with you.

I have a standard cash box with digital keypad to store camera, tyre gauge, car registration, insurance info and other bits & pieces. It is cable locked to the chassis tubes and bolted through the wooden part of the boot floor to stop it sliding around. I take the steering wheel with me, but could thread the cash box cable lock through it, too. The cable lock was supplied with the cash box and is just a cable loop with a crimped metal end that you put inside the cash box, it is then secured when the lid is locked.

I just put my money in my pocket then when I get out of the car I know exactly where all my money is........... under the Tillet in which case it's totally inaccesable to anyone.... without removing said seat ...

Mine came with a small cash box bolted into boot. Good for small items. Bike cable lock for wheel.

I like that idea. Any recommendations for a combination chain lock? All of the chains I've seen on Google come with a keyed padlock and it seems a bit backward to have a keyless car and then have to carry a key for the steering wheel

Just got this today (prompted by this thread) so I dont have to borrow sons scooter lock.

It wont stop the Brinks Matt gang but opportunist yes. B&Q £4. Its short at 0.6m so not much slack to have a good swing on it!!

From the experience with people not realising they have space saver spare wheels, tool kits, inflator kits, vast caverns etc in their own cars a bit of foam to hold stuff in place with a trimmed panel over the top seems the best way to hide things in the boot.  This is especially true if the spare lives under a panel in a space under the main boot floor like the XC90. A breakers or eBay may have a civic / CRV / jazz boot floor to cut up. Golf parcel shelves are also pretty tough and light composite panels. I guess if some tea leaf sees no wheel on the column there may be a quick check in the boot for it as it's the obvious place to store it.
