carmadnick
Had rear o/s brakes binding and have replaced disc pads and caliper without drama both sides.Floating caliper attached to fixed brake pipe so thought best to add flexible hoses too and now problems start. Have bought the flexible hoses from C and assume swivel end goes to caliper? The fitting in the small bag with nut and copper washer fits the Sierra caliper but the swivel is a different thread to the fitting so will not fit. Seems the swivel is imperial but the fitting is ??? Called C this am but very busy and will get back to me but no guidance yet. Car currently out of action until this is sorted so can anyone point me in the direction of what fitting I need and supplier. I'm based in Reading. Thanks for any help. elie boone
Have you checked that the adaptor has the same tread on both ends ? The Sierra caliper is M10 x 1 if my memory serves me wel. Also check that the adaptor has the correct connection, convex or concave especially on the swivel side, it's less important on the caliper side as the adapter would normally be to short to touch the bottom of the connection in the caliper. John Vine
IIRC from when I fitted my flex hoses, the adaptor threads are different each end. I suggest you trial-fit the adaptor to the swivel first, then you'll know which end to screw into the caliper. And, yes, you fit the swivel at the caliper end.JV
carmadnick
Thanks both. The adaptor, convex end, fits in the caliper which has a concave recess. The convex end of the adaptor will not fit in the swivel as the internals to the swivel restricts the threads getting anywhere close. The other end of the adaptor is concave and has a different thread to the swivel, it binds after a third of a turn. I pinged a photo to James W (as Cater guy I queried this with yesterday morning hadn't come back to me and when I called up again for the verdict was told he wasn't in today and system down this pm for month end) and he had never seen a brake swivel with an internal with a rubber o ring to seal a brake line. His verdict is the swivel is wrong. I tried to post a photo but that has beaten me too. Hope I have better luck tomorrow as would like to put the car back together for the weekend. 7 wonders of the world
metric threads usually gave a groove machined in the hexagonal hut portion for id purposes.Caliper is metric 3 way union is imperial
carmadnick
Thank you all for the information, I caught up with Caterham again yesterday and they sent me another set of pipes and adapters and they all fit together fine so I can now put the car back together again over the weekend. :-)
