Brake Lights and Reversing Light not working

My brake lights and reversing light have stopped working - it's a Yr 2000 K series VVC.

I note from the wiring diagram that these lights are all on the same circuit - I've checked the fuse and its OK.

Therefore, I suspect the brake switch that appears to act as the live for the reversing light as well as the brake lights.

However, before I order a new one, anyone else had this problem and have any suggestions?

Thanks

They share the same fuse. Check any split pin on the top of the clutch pedal is not able to touch pins on brake light switch during braking. That will blow the fuse.

Found out why the reversing light isn't working - the switch is not connected to the wiring loom!!!!!

This is totally my fault. Tied it out of the way when I was working in that area last year. Now thinking that the 'bare live' might have been causing the fuse to blow.

Fitting a new brake switch tomorrow and hoping that will then get the car back in rude health

Thanks for the replies

You could always put the better quality switch in place of the cheap CC plastic one

Intermotor 51690

make sure its adjusted correctly so the brake pedal does [email protected] it hard upon release

I have fitted the Intermotor 51690 type, and all working fine. Noted it does not have the same length of thread as the Caterham model, so it is only just long enough to do the job. It doesn't need a locking nut as the body is tight up against the bracket (well it is on mine anyway!)

You can bend the tag on the stud of the pedal.

Had the same issue with my brake lights this weekend; shorting the connections makes them work so a dead switch for me as well. Frustrating, but a simple fix, or it would have been if I hadn't had to drill out one of the screws holding the cover in for the pedal box!
