bulkhead colour?

What year did the bulkhead panels(heater/ecu area) become black,as opposed to alloy ? or was it an option

You can paint it any colour you like, or polish it to your hearts content.

Some cars, typically painted via Classic Carriage (the precursor to Caterham Midlands but now defunct) had the full scuttle (outside & engine bay) painted body colour along with the pedal box cover. The body shop was CJ Tallis in Hinckley.

My 8 valve Vauxhall was a 2002 car & it had a bare alloy bulkhead. If I recall correctly, a black painted bulkhead was a feature on Superlight spec cars at that time. I couldn't stretch to such fancy luxuries!

It might not be the same now but going back a "black pack" was an optional extra and IIRC included windscreen surround, bulkhead, heater tray, rear bulkhead and tunnel panels. It certainly wasn't standard on the SLR (mine was all ally) and I doubt it on the basic Superlight.

if all cars are now black paneled it must have become standard at some point but someone with a newer car would need to confirm this.

I did tick the 'black pack' option on my car. The headlamps & windscreen were black & the rear wing stone guards & sill protectors were carbon fibre. It didn't change anything under the bonnet though.

My 2012 car has virtually no extras at all and panels are black - it doesn't have black pack option.
