Blackmamba Posted January 2, 2021 Share Posted January 2, 2021 HiI am new to the forum and Caterham ownership so looking forward to Spring so I can get some use out of my car on road and track. It's a 2003 R400 and relatively standard apart from a cat bypass, currently fitted with a foam Pipercross air filter.I am told I may have trouble getting on some quieter trackdays with this set up and that an R500 carbon airbox will help with noise. Would anyone who has made the switch be able to tell me how much difference it makes and if there are any other side effects? I presume I would lose some of the lovely induction roar, would the engine benefit from a remap / tune or is it a straight swap?Any other advice, suggestions would be appreciated.Thanks Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted January 2, 2021 Leadership Team Share Posted January 2, 2021 Caterham no longer supply the original R500 carbon air box and s/h ones are few and far between. The kit as supplied by Caterham was a Caterham branded Reverie "Silverstone" airbox plus filter and inlet ducting, and also an intake box that sat low at the front of the car. It's possible now to assemble a kit of Reverie supplied parts, I believe the cost is in the region of £650. There was a thread running recently on this.My own car (SLR) is fitted with an original Caterham R500 airbox and it reduces the intake noise substantially, I've not had it tested back to back on the rollers with an open filter but when it was setup with the airbox fitted it certainly didn't seem to suffer any!Stu. I have an opportunity to buy one of the Caterham carbon air boxes so I will probably get it just in case. The main parts you need are the airbox, filter and collector: The filter fits between the airbox and collector.The ducting is readily available from the likes of Demon Tweeks:Stu.
