Carbon interior panels

Re the waxoyl thing .... I replaced my interior panels around 10 years ago and injected lots of Waxoyl into the chassis tubes, around 4L of the stuff. In hot weather it does leak out, amazingly through the rivets themselves, and if I was doing the job again I'd use closed end rivets to reduce the leaking although as yet I've not found any closed end rivets available in black. No rattling from the old rivets though.

But .... if the Waxoyl can get out, water can get in. At least with plenty of Waxoyl in the chassis tubes there's more corrosion protection than without.

Is the rattling of drilled out rivets a factual or anecdotal point?  I'd be surprised if you could hear anything against the din of the car!

I have drilled them out when changing sill protectors from SS to carbon and not noticed any additional noise.  I expect they have all dropped inside the tubes and wedged themselves together.  Now their added weight, that's another matter... *rofl*

Thanks to all who commented, much appreciated. I've taken my car off its winter axle stands (thinking the summer had arrived and I might miss out on some blatting) having got through several upgrades, but not all and the interior cosmetic panels are not a priority.

I shall purchase some 6mm carbon and when the winter comes round again pull the car apart and continue with the upgrades I purchase during the summer.

I think the ally interior side panels are 1mm. I measured the standard floors and they're 1.5mm, lowered floors are 3mm and much more substantial. I suspect 2mm CF would do the job fine for the interior side panels/tunnel.

Gentlemen, my apologies that should have read 1mm, my existing Ali panels look like they have been chewed by a dog along the top edge, so God only knows what has happened to them before me!

Jonathan, I will follow up with photos, But could be some time....... Thread resurrection due in the winter 2018/19

Now, how about some driving....sunshine and Marlow, Henley, Nettlebed, Wallingford.each day.
