p.mole1
There is a very nice Caterham Fireblade complete with trailer on Pistonheads at the minute. I've never driven one but I was thinking of cutting my loses with my K series car and putting it back to a standard 1.4 or 1.8SS. I would then have a few bits to sell off A DVA VVC head Jenvey DTA throttle bodies. Do think there is much interest in stuff second hand?
revilla
I would have thought a decent DVA head and Jenveys would sell easily for good money if that's really the way you want to go.
p.mole1
I'm going to rebuild the engine, after speaking to Dave it looks like it has spun a bearing. The double tang rods are not very good at locating the bearings. The bearing can rotate in the rod and as it does so the bearing will tighten onto the crank journal. I am going to use a set of Daves rods and Omega pistons and Mahle big end bearings this time
p.mole1
Why Rover machined a second set of locating grooves is a complete mystery to me but it allows the bearing to move in the rod given enough provocation?
Tom_Arundel
As a matter of interest....Have you measured the bearing stand ups in the rod and cap. The bearings should be an interference fit when the bolts are tight and not have to rely on the tags....(they are more of a positioning device))
p.mole1
No, and that could be a problem as the bearings were sourced from evilbay they were branded King but could be any sort of Chinese fakes? To be honest it had not even crossed my mind, the picture is just for illustration and the bearings seem quite well located when you tighten the caps. Before I built the engine I read Des Hammills book of doom and the bottom end did not seem to be a weakness. They are probably ok on a standard engine, not so on one pushing out nearly 200 Bhp
