Caterham Workshop Notices

There was a 2014 discussion here

WNs are internal CC documents aimed at production and service staff.  Every now and then, one escapes into the L7C community (usually sent by CC to answer a particular query).  So, to answer your questions: no, there isn't a place where they are posted, and no, they're not a subscription item.

The club (that is, Martin Bushaway) has approached CC on more than one occasion to try to persuade them to allow us to publish a selection of WNs on our website.  To date, CC have been unwilling for us to do so, but I guess we'll have to keep pushing!

There are several WNs already circulating amongst club members.  I have the following in my own files:

  • WN371 - Fuel-tank notice
  • WN373 - Setting up Roller Barrel Induction Systems
  • WN460 - Rear ARB and Wheel-speed Sensor
  • WN515 - Wiring guide for Duratec Flexi-coil loom
  • WN572 - Speedometer sensor groundwire installation

If you'd like any of these, just BM me.

Interesting that CC do not issue these to the club as they are useful bits of info and also would potentially drive up sales as we do the upgrades, not to mention improve safety?

I don't know what's been tried in the past but could we not collect these into a members only area (either by our own collection or CC providing ?)

Just a thought

TomB: Yes, I think so.  It was written by Nathan Down, dated 02/10/2002, with an intro: "To minimise fuel loss through the breather on cars not fitted with charcoal canisters (UK spec and race cars) under hard left hand cornering"

Ian: YHM.  When Martin B (in his role as club chairman and prime liaison point) last asked CC, they replied to the effect that:

...although WNs are part of CC's own internal processes and not intended for a wider audience, it should be possible to make WNs available to owners.  However, this would entail extra work to make clear which particular cars they relate to and the relevant date ranges, and the resource required to do this is simply not available at present.

I believe Martin B has also suggested to CC that maybe they would permit the Club to load to the website just those WNs already circulating amongst members.  Unfortunately, CC appear not to want to support this either.  Maybe the Club can try again during 2016?

Hi John

could I ask about the Arb / speed sensor and the speedo connection notices please. I'm having an issue with the 3 wires on a new sensor to the 2 wires from the speedo head please. They might throw some light on the problem.

Thanks

Hi Kevsta,

Would you like copies of WN460 and WN572?  If so, send me a message with your email address.

WN572 involves fitting an alternative ground wire from the sensor connector to a nearby chassis point. The idea is to prevent the speedo picking up interference from the loom, a known cause of erratic speedo behaviour.

WN460 describes a modified ARB mounting bracket, designed to remove the inherent pre-loading in the earlier versions that could affect sensor performance.  It's not concerned will the sensor wiring.

On my car (2008 R400D), the three sensor wires are Blue, Black, Brown,  These connect through a 3-way Econoseal to loom wires Black, Yellow/Black, and Green respectively.  It sounds as though your "missing" third wire is the loom ground.  Are your two existing wires Yellow/Black and Green?  If so, I think all you need to do is fit a new ground from the econoseal connector, as described in WN572.

Hi John,

I've just been researching my Duratec misfire and come across your detailed post and pictures on the  Workshop Notice WN515.

My Roadsport 175 is 2011 and does not appear to have the big connector so I am thinking I dont have this new loom.

A bit more digging on the Blatchat and I find this post where you have 5 WNs listed ....

I reckon I could do with 4 of them!

WN373 ... I've recently had the roller barrels and cams upgrade fitted by Caterham and they were certainly not set up.

WN460 ... My speedo gradually declines to zero over a long run, have always suspected heat or some movment of the bracket.

WN515 ... Intermittent misfire at anything for 3000 RPM upwards under modest/enthusiastic acceleration

WN572 ... Speedo can be erratic particularly with head lights on and the indicators ... pulses in synch with the indicators! Problem since Day 1, Caterham never solved.

I will send you a PM.

Thanks

Chris
