clutch noise

probably  an idiot question but.....

with my car idling in neutral i have a noise like a bearing running rough. as soon as i depress clutch pedal the noise dissapears only to reappear when releasing the pedal.

 

any ideas and remedies.

k series 5 speed

Ford ATF fluid (red stuff) was the 'approved' CC oil for 5 speeders when I had both of my K series cars. The idler gear bearing/layshaft used to make a hell of a racket when hot so out came the red stuff & in went a good 80w/90 gL4, relative silence restored although if the tick over dropped below the norm the rattle was more discernable.
