finmac
I have a smallish oil leak which Is from the bottom of the crankcase. I intend to clean it up and try a wee touch of sika flex on to see if it will hold it back. However I notice there’s one set screw down low just off the centre at the front of the engine (rather than a bolt). It’s in this area it’s leaking, however adjacent is a small black wedge type semi circle of metal, which rests within the casting, not sure what this is for and whether it can be temporary popped out prior to sealing? 7 wonders of the world
Are you running the Raceline DS..?If so the semi circle you can see is the blanking for the casting hole its a press fit alloy plug with tapped M6 for extraction purposes. You can see the hole in the right hand picturehttps://www.raceline.co.uk/products/part_section.asp?categoryID=1%20&SectionID=
finmac
Cheers! It’s a CSR so standard cossie 2.3D. That hole looks like exactly in the right place though, so thanks for that! I suspect it’s also maybe the source of the oil leak! Sounds like the plug screws in but likely needs the crankcase cover to be off to enable it to turn? David Brown
Did you try dropping the sump and re-sealing it?
7 wonders of the world
The Raceline one is just a light interference fit with a smear or sealant around it, tap it in with a mallet until flush with the front edge.
finmac
Turns out when I cleaned it all up properly it wasn’t the sump at all - thankfully! Rather it looks like it might well be this plug. Will have a better look tomorrow
