Emerald to MEMS3 Adaptor - Question for anyone who's got one.

When I was setting up a key programming rig I needed to make some adapters to allow me to connect MEMS3 plugs to earlier ECUs. I don't think there is a cable-mounted male connector manufactured which mates with the MEMS3 female connectors, only board-mounted, so I made these by chopping down the header desoldered off an old MEMS3 ECU. I cut all the leads off short on the back, soldered wires on where I needed to make connections and then used heat-shrink to insulate and support the joints, like this:

Now I'm working on another project and I need to make a sort of piggy-back adaptor for a MEMS3 ECU, which I could do in exactly the same way, but as it is likely to end up installed on my car for quite some time I wanted to make something as robust as possible, and I thought about the adaptors that Emerald sell to allow their EU2-style ECUs to connect to EU3 engine looms. So I had a look on their site and found these pictures:

Now unless I'm very much mistaken, it looks to me like they've done exactly what I did! In fact I think I can actually see in those pictures that the remaining "stumps" of the unused leads are slightly uneven in length where somebody has gone a long pruning them back with side cutters, which looks very familiar indeed.

Can anyone who has one of these fitted please confirm whether their solution is the same as mine (although probably using new plugs rather than salvaged scrap)?

If anyone could send me close-up pictures of the wiring side of the MEMS3 connector in one of these adapters so I can see the construction I'd be most grateful.

Thanks,

Andrew

Andrew,

I've fitted around 60 of them, they are board connectors (or at least they were when the initial manufacture started) and Emerald had great difficulty in sourcing them at first.

Unfortunately I don't have any in stock at present, but as soon as I do I will tak a pic.

Thanks Dave, much appreciated.

The board connectors do seem to be reasonably readily available now as part number TE 1534512-3 but being a cheapskate I've been pinching them off old MEMS3s left over from my other experiments which I got for a fiver off eBay!
